    Gothic Fashion and Subculture – Influences and Movements

    Throughout the next series of articles, we will explore the history of the Gothic subculture. The reasons that people partake in this communith, as well as the effect it holds Forward the community as a controversial fashion sense. While the Gothic subculture isn’t often an accepted fashion, in most states. However, it is important to remember that doing what makes you feel accepted in your lifestyle, and meets your needs.

    Th Gothic subculture has been around for decades, it is generally stereotyped as a dark, morbid, or eroticized type of dress. The Goth style tended to reject the mainstream values, with an emphasis on the freedom of expression, and pushing the limits with taboo items. Goth Gentility often times emphasize the transformation of the human form, in order to make a conscious statement of eroticism that flouts all conventionalism.

    However, while not all participants in the Goth subculture may or may not embrace the culture. Many are drawn to the fashion, and music due to a sense of alienation, from other groups, and their community. Generally speakng, in the communities eye’s bearing black eyeshadow, and the shroud-like clothing represents the vampiric nature of the undead. However, does not nscessarily represent an anti Society attitude.

    While most of the community look down upon the fashion trends of Goths, often times this fashion has a life-changing effect. Allowing the person to transform from an alienated person, through self expression, and the beauty of the fashion. Often times, allowing the individual to seek Revealed, and embrace a sense of belonging to a communoty that shares the same sense of alienation.

    However, alienation isn’t always the means of entering the Gothic subculture. Some Gothic fans thrive on the extensive history. One of the biggest influences of the goth culture, was Theda Bara, the 1910’s Vampire femme fatale known for her dark shadow upon her eyes, the curves that just wouldn’t stop, and the heated on-screen presence. Like an urban primitive movement, the goth subculture rejects the maintsream conventions, and encourages the reinvention of yourself. Usually, this would include transforming yourself with clothing, or by physical modification.

    Goth fashion is easy to recognize, normally by it stark black clothing, which is often times contrasted with bold and colorful clothing, hair, or makeul . In deep shades of reds, purples, blues, and even hues of emerald greens. The goth subculture not only aids in individuality, but holds an air of morbid beauty.
